Michigan is one of the most spectacular outdoor destinations in North America — 3,288 miles of freshwater coastline, two magnificent peninsulas, millions of acres of state and national forest, and over 11,000 inland lakes. Yet finding a great place to camp has always been surprisingly hard.

We built CampgroundsInMichigan.com to fix that. Our mission is simple: make it effortless for any family, couple, or solo adventurer to discover, compare, and plan a Michigan camping trip — and to give campground owners a powerful, free platform to reach them.

A Weekend Trip That Sparked an Idea

It started with a camping trip that almost didn't happen. After hours of searching across a dozen different websites, calling numbers that went to voicemail, and sifting through outdated listings, we finally found a campsite — but only after the weekend was half gone.

We thought: Michigan deserves better than this. Its campers deserve better. Its campground owners — many of them small family operations — deserve a real platform to be discovered.

So we started building. We drove the state, talked to hundreds of campground owners, and listened to campers about what they really needed. The result is what you see today — and we're just getting started.

From a frustrating camping trip to Michigan's most trusted campground directory.

The Beginning
The Idea Takes Root
After one too many failed attempts to find reliable campground information online, our founders decided to do something about it. Research began, coffee was consumed, and a plan was born.

We Drove the Whole State
We spent weeks on the road visiting campgrounds from the Keweenaw Peninsula down to the Indiana border, talking to owners and campers, collecting photos, and building our first listings by hand.
Launch Day
CampgroundsInMichigan.com Goes Live
We launched with 200 hand-verified listings and a simple search tool. Within the first month, thousands of Michigan campers had used the site to plan their trips.
